Susie served 30 years in the U.S. Navy, specializing in submarine acoustics and communications. During her tenure, she experienced the 1989 Bay Area earthquake firsthand and led the response and recovery efforts for Naval Station Treasure Island. Susie completed a master’s certificate in Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Her final research project focused on whether residential care homes in Kailua were disaster ready. She resides in Kailua (since 1999) with her husband, David.
